4th Hale (St Peter's) Scout Group
The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national and international communities.
4th Hale Scout Group, sponsored by St. Peter’s Church, includes children from over 75 families aged between 6 and 14 and aims to fulfil the objectives above. The Group contains four sections which meet at the Scout hut next to St. Peter’s Assembly Rooms. Beavers meet on Monday evenings. Our two cub packs meet on Mondays and Thursdays and Scouts meet on Fridays. Fourteen to 18 year olds can join the Panther Explorer Unit, administered by Altrincham District, which meets at the scout hut behind the Boys’ Grammar School. Beavers, Cubs and Explorers can include both girls and boys. At present we have one brave girl in cubs. Contact details at the bottom of this page.
We are blessed with volunteer leaders in each section who follow the Scouting Programme and organise activities suitable for the age group. Beavers play games, do craft activities, act out sketches and learn about the wide world. Cubs enjoy a wide range of activities including cooperative and team building games, woodwork projects, camping on two weekends in summer, taking hikes, making small rafts to sail on the Bollin, learning First Aid and arranging flowers for Mothering Sunday. The Scouts are engaged in many outdoor activities including rifle shooting, hiking, cycling, canoeing, and camping. In the hut they often make gourmet meals, practise pioneering skills and study maps.
Occasionally the sections come together on a project. We have run several successful Campfire Shows in the Assembly Rooms which have involved over 75 young people and led to “Entertainer “ badges. Each section rehearses songs and sketches in the meetings. Then we pull them together for a show with minimum props, costumes and scenery. The Cubs and Scouts help serving food at the Ploughman’s Lunches and St Peter’s Fun Day. All members of the Group are encouraged to attend at least three church parade services each year: Mothering Sunday, Harvest and December Gift Service.
The leaders are grateful for the assistance of some parents who manage the finances, help to organise jumble sales twice a year and arrange occasional social events. Offers of help with the jumble sales, camps, record keeping and craft work would be received with thanks. We are also always looking to recruit adults who would be willing to commit themselves to leadership roles. There is never a shortage of children who want to take part in scouting activities.
